Despite sometimes being crowded, especially on sunny days, the atmosphere here is warm and communal. Satisfied diners describe the dishes as “yummy” with larger-than-expected portions. Reviews for Tuen Kee Chinese Restaurant
Review highlights
Based on 2,342 reviewsTuen Kee Chinese Restaurant in Tsuen Wan offers a nostalgic, old-school dim sum experience characterized by self-service ordering and tea brewing. Patrons appreciate its fresh, homegrown ingredients, notably the watercress, and the use of spring water sourced from nearby mountains. The restaurant is praised for its generous portions, affordability, and traditional ambiance complemented by scenic views. While the self-service format and cash-only policy require diners to be self-sufficient, this approach adds to the authentic charm. Visitors note that food availability may vary throughout the day, with popular fried items occasionally selling out. Overall, Tuen Kee is celebrated for delivering high-quality, classic Cantonese fare in a unique, rustic setting favored by both locals and tourists alike.
There is a 30min interval bus number 80 that reaches behind the restaurant. Self service resturant unless you wanna order some cooked dishes. Uses spring water from its mountain, and the watercress here were homegrown. The dim sum were old school and yummy. Portions were good and very affordable. There's a queue when the weather is good.
Old school dim sum restaurant. Good fresh watercress for $50 HKD.
Actually, I visited here due to Korean Youtuber show. I took redline subway from TimsaChui and local 80bus. This restaurant food and tea were just amazing. This is kind of pay as you eat. Only I paid 73HKD. Can you believe this?
Yum cha has evolved over time, from picking you favourite dishes out of a trolley being pushed around by middle age ladies to simply filling in a paper form and handing it to a waiter. Tuen Kee offers a third method by allowing you to brew your own tea and pick your own dishes from various food stations. We got there a bit late so a lot of the fried food had already run out. We were still able to try a lot of the steamed items but my favourite was the tea-flavoured dessert mochi. Overall, the food was decent for the relatively low prices. But the focus was really on the self-serve yum cha exprience. Note: The restaurant is located in the mountains above Tsuen Wan, reachable by car or catching the green minibus. The village roads are very narrow and parking is limited.
Cash-only, no credit cards A traditional experience with great food and great views, but you gotta know what you're getting into. Don't expect people to take your orders, it's all self-service including the tea. Food is based on what's available, so you might not get your favorites but everything we had was fantastic, so try everything.
Rustic restaurant in a village of HK. Everything is self served. First find a seat, then you get your own tea and utensils, then pick your freshly steamed/fried dim sum. No waiters. Self serve. The staff are extremely friendly and kind to non-Cantonese speaking tourists.
Authentic Hong Kong yum cha restaurant in the middle of the mountain village. Full of memory of 80’s Hong Kong style tradition. All dim sum are super fresh and yummy as this looks like dim sum buffet, and just take whatever you want and pay later. The most liked dish is the local grew Sai Yeung Choy. My favorite
